Prince Philip: Listen to BBC Radio 1 Dance get awkwardly interrupted by the national anthem
A video clip has emerged showing the moment a BBC Radio 1 station was awkwardly interrupted by the national anthem as news broke of the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Radio 1 Dance, a sub-station of Radio 1, was playing a pre-recorded episode of “Classic Dance Anthems with Charlie Hedges” when the music was jarringly replaced mid-song by “God Save Our Queen”.
The station then announced the news that Buckingham Palace had confirmed Prince Philip had passed away on Friday morning.
The BBC and other broadcasters have well-rehearsed protocols for breaking the news of the death of a member of the royal family, which includes playing the national anthem on the airwaves.
The corporation has also postponed the broadcast of large portions of its planned TV schedule, including episodes of Eastenders and the Masterchef final.
