The Royal Air Force aircraft will fly over the Capital at 11:30am before heading for Belfast, Cardiff and London later this afternoon.

An official tweet from the Red Arrows – known for their aerobatics and red, white and blue trails – said it will be the first time in eight years that the planes will perform such flypasts, since the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

VJ Day - or Victory over Japan Day - ended one of the worst episodes in British military history, in which tens of thousands of servicemen were forced to endure the brutalities of prisoner of war camps.
