Madge, the cockapoo, was out walking with her owner Andy Hughes when a sudden burst of fireworks saw her fleeing into the night.

“She had been fine with the fireworks to begin with” explained Andy, “a few had gone off and she just looked up at the sky at them, but this was a real burst of a few of them, and quick as a flash, she was gone.”

She and Andy were walking in the Fauldburn Park area in Edinburgh, near Bartongate Avenue when Madge fled the noise of the fireworks.

Andy continued: “She just raced off into some woodland, out of sight instantly, and there were a few ways she could have gone.

"I tried to track her. Then I checked to see if she’d gone home.

"She has a wee dog friend who she sometimes sits on the steps with, and she wasn’t there either.

"That’s when I got a search party together."

Andy had posted on Facebook that Madge was missing and eventually received a screenshot from a website, which showed the puppy on a doorstep on Queensferry Road.

“She had actually crossed over a few busy roads to get to where she was. She was on a stranger’s doorstep just shaking.

"She must have been terrified, and I’m guessing she just headed to a place where there were less fireworks.”
