The funding is for a 1-year period for community projects, starting from April 2023, which are aimed at improving the quality of life for local residents.

“We recognise the invaluable support that volunteers, local groups and charities provide to our communities,” said Midlothian Council leader, Councillor Kelly Parry.

“The small grants programme helps provide key funding to help these groups take forward local projects and in turn provide support which can make a real difference to the lives of our residents.”Application forms and guidance documents go live on September 12 at www.midlothian.gov.uk/funding and close on October 14. Funding decisions will be made in December.

Funding can be used for things like volunteer expenses, running costs, start-up costs for new projects, staff costs, buying equipment and feasibility studies.

Applicants must also demonstrate how these help meet the priorities of the Single Midlothian Plan – to improve the health and learning outcomes of individuals and communities, to ensure no child or household in Midlothian lives in poverty and to make significant progress towards net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
