Over the past 10 years, 132 contestants have tackled different baking challenges of varying difficulty for the entertainment of millions of fans.
As the youngest ever Bake Off winner at just 19-years-old, Peter himself said: “When I was 12 I was watching repeats of Bake Off back to back, and it got me into baking big time.
“I am a Bake Off nerd, and I think 12-year-old Peter would be in awe, and just the most excited giddy kid. I am that excited and giddy kid right now.”
Over the years, the amateur bakers have been asked to make everything from scones to mille-feuille, tiered cakes to viennoiseries and proven time and time again what it takes to be crowned Star Baker, and ultimately the Great British Baker.
First airing on August 17 2010, we have enjoyed a delightful 94 episodes of the Great British Bake Off according to William Hill who collected various stats and figures from the decade the programme has been running.
The finalists alone throughout the years have used roughly 45,000 grams of flour, over 32,000 grams of butter and a whopping 73,975 grams of sugar to create their final bakes.
61 cookbooks in total have been written by Bake Off Stars, including Nadiya Hussain and Ruby Tandoh. While Peter’s immediate plans involve sticking with his degree and finishing university in Edinburgh, perhaps he’ll follow suit and dabble in culinary publishing when he graduates.
