The Proclaimers' rousing anthem I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) used in advert for Viagra

It's been used to soundtrack all manner of occasions since it was first released more than two decades ago – from weddings to funerals and sporting events.

But now, The Proclaimers' iconic hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) has shown it's still got life in it yet... after it was used in an advert for Viagra.

The song, from Leith twins Charlie and Craig Reid's 1988 album Sunshine on Leith, is being used in a bid to help raise profits for an erectile dysfunction pill, produced by a company called Viagra Connect UK.

The advert follows the story of an animated couple having some serious problems in the bedroom department.

Initially, the workaholic husband fends off his wife's attempts at instigating some intimacy.

As the ad says, he “lets life get in the way of their love story”.

Eventually, he gives in to her advances, only to find he's got erectile dysfunction.

All's well that ends well though, and as the famous chorus to I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) kicks in, he reaches into a bedside drawer and produces a packet of Viagra.

And well, you can probably guess the rest.

The brothers Reid are not the only famous names to have been used to promote Viagra in the past – Brazilian football legend Pele once appeared in an advert for the erectile dysfunction pills.
