Three-week-old albino wallaby spotted peeking over mother’s pouch in Dunbar

An albino joey peeked shyly over its mother's pouch - but really enjoys bouncing around with its 'mob' of wallabies.

The three-week-old male joey, who has not yet been named, was born with white fur and skin and pink eyes - just like its dad.

The family live at East Links Family Park in Dunbar, East Lothian, and have been seeing an influx of visitors since the lockdown has lifted, as members are welcomed back.

Both the baby joey and its dad are extremely rare, as they were born with an absence of melanin, which causes pigment in skin.

Despite this, the 'mob' they move in - the term for a collective of wallabies - do not discriminate.

Park manager Barry Cowan, 41, said: "It's just a fluke, it's very rare.

"The wallabies don't discriminate, they can't tell the difference between them."

The tiny wallaby was born on May 20, and another baby was born around the same time - with another slightly older one also in the mob.

Seven wallabies live at the wildlife park - and although the young joey loves to nap, it also enjoys bouncing around with its pals.

Barry added: "He's getting more active - he is always jumping around but he doesn't want to be far from his mum."

The baby wallaby will be named as part of a competition when the park reopens to the public in the coming weeks.
