Video: How to create the perfect Halloween look

IT's the time of year where parents everywhere struggle to create spooktacular makeovers.

So step-up Edinburgh-based artist and hairdresser Bruce Hunter, who has given us a step by step guide to the perfect Hallowe’en face paint.

Jennifer Raeburn, 15, and brother Calum, 10, from Port Seton, were the ghoulish guinea pigs transformed into ghostly apparitions by Bruce.

Bruce, 57, revealed his simple tricks for creating a spooky look at home.

Now a freelance photographer after retiring from makeup artistry, he said many Hallowe’en effects could be created at home, adding: “Because most store makeup is of such good quality now, it is actually relatively cheap and easy to produce a ghostly look with what is available to you at home.”

“It’s also well worth employing a few other cheap tricks to enhance that look; for example, creating a really pale face can be done with white face paint, but a good idea is to use talcum powder on a large powderpuff and just dab around the face to give it that extra-pale look. For the eyeshadow, starting in the corner of the eye with an eyeshadow brush and sweep up the way to create that kind of winged effect. You may notice I used a little bit of black paper on Calum’s face, which I just cut up with nail scissors, just to create that unique, extra look.”
