Video shows heavy rain send water streaming down steps from Calton Hill

The Edinburgh Festival may be an online-only affair this year, but it seems no one thought to tell the rain gods.

Much to the chagrin of Fringe-goers, the Capital often experiences rainy days during August – although Monday's downpours really were something else.

Indeed, video footage filmed by David Harkin, and shared on Twitter, shows just how heavy the rain was at times.

David, who is an Earth Scientist currently researching climate change impacts and risks at Historic Environment Scotland, captured some amazing footage of water cascading down the steps from Calton Hill.

Rain has been lashing down most of the day and the Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for Edinburgh, which will be in place from 1pm to 9pm on Tuesday.

They have warned that heavy rain may bring further disruption.
