Stephen Rooney filmed himself painting the Scott Monument on a classic rainy day in the Capital.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: “I have a huge love for Scotland, the Scottish people and her amazing Landscapes. Northern Ireland and Scotland have such close links.

“I have explored various parts of Scotland, from the North-West Highlands and Loch Lomond, to Glasgow and the borders.

“Each time I go to Scotland I feel that I am home.”

Stephen painted the iconic monument from a photo that his friend sent him.

He said: “ It was a Sunny day, but I prefer the weather to be doing something when I paint.

“Blue skies bore me, so with all the rain lately, I decided upon a very wet painting.”

Winner of UK Young Landscape Artist two years in a row, this Northern Irish artist is inspired by nature and the outdoors.

He explained: “My parents could never keep me inside when it rained or snowed, but on sunny days I’d stay inside and paint/draw.

“I always say I was an Artist from birth.

“I’d sit in preschool aged four in a corner on my own drawing and painting.

“That’s all I ever wanted to do. I sold my first three paintings aged 14.”

Stephen’s paintings can be found all over the world, including one owned by American singer Sheryl Crow.
