In 2017, Mollie also set a world record by becoming the world's youngest person to climb both the south and north sides of Mount Everest.

And with dressings on her weather-beaten cheeks and tears rolling down her face, the physical and mental challenge of skiing solo to the South Pole for 58 days is plain to see in footage and photographs released of Mollie.

Along the way, she spent nearly 650 hours skiing alone battling through whiteouts, storm-force winds and temperatures hitting -45C.

She also had to pull a sled weighing 105kg while skiing between 10 and 12 hours a day and consuming about 4,500kcal daily.

Mollie takes the world record from previous holder, Vilborg Gissuradottir from Iceland, who completed the challenge in 2013 when she was 32.

Only six women and 17 men have so far successfully completed the route to the South Pole alone and unsupported.

Now recuperating in Chile, Mollie has been able to enjoy her first hot shower in two months.
