Puppy love was in the air on Sunday and not just because West Lothian singer Paige Turley and her new boyfriend Finley Tapp were crowned winners of ITV’s Love Island.

No, there was an even more heartwarming tale of star-crossed lovers happening much closer to home, as another loved-up pair declared their affection in ever more concrete terms on the same day: Nova and Ottis, who got married on Sunday.

The difference between this couple and the loved-up Turley and Tapp was not only that the latter took a little longer to make the headlines, but also that Nova and Ottis are both dachshunds.

The pair got “married” at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Edinburgh as part of a Wedding Showcase event by the hotel.

They are both owned by the same person, who won a competition by the DoubleTree to nominate an adorable four-legged couple for the ceremony.

Nova and Ottis took part in a “proposal” photoshoot and enjoyed a specially-catered dog-friendly afternoon tea at the hotel before the big day.

Among wedding guests on Sunday were representatives from a national Dachshund owners’ group and prospective (human) customers touring the hotel as a possible venue for their own nuptials.

Marcello Ventisei, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre, said: “Couples are spoiled for choice with wedding venues, so we wanted to showcase a unique take on the full journey from proposal to vows with adorable canines.

“We’ve loved this journey with Nova and Ottis and we hope our guests enjoyed being part of this picture-perfect day too.”

Mr Ventisei has previously made it clear that the marriage will not be “legally binding”.
