In pictures: Dinosaurs transform Lauriston Castle into Jurassic Kingdom

MONSTER-sized family fun roars into Edinburgh today with Lauriston Castle grounds transformed into Jurassic Kingdom '“ home to more than 30 life-size animatronic dinosaurs.

The huge stars of the show, which runs until April 15, include an 18m high T-Rex and a 16m long Diplodocus.

These life-like prehistoric creatures roar, snarl, snap their jaws, move their eyes and sway their tails as they are robotically brought back to life using state-of-the-art electronic wizardry.

The jaw-dropping technology transports visitors back in time 65 million years to see some fighting, others entertainingly trying to smash their way out of cages, while baby dinos hatch from the biggest eggs you will see this Easter.

Full-scale dinosaurs have been built by experts in China, and the UK tour, which sold out in Glasgow last year, is being run by multi-media experts Weli Creative.

Visitors can now encounter the creatures as they explore a dinosaur trail through the ­castle grounds, with full-sized dinosaur replicas from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods.

Younger fans can try their hand at digging for bones in an excavation area and learn more in an educational marquee about how dinosaurs lived. But despite the big roars, it is very much a family-friendly 

Naz Kabir, event director at Weli Creative said: “People of all ages will love it. It’s a fantastic, interactive exhibition with lifelike dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes, roaring and moving as our visitors approach them.”
