Pints at 1992 prices in pubs’ January sale

The pubs will be serving a pint of real ale at 1992 prices from tomorrow until January 11 inclusive.

They include The Standing Order and The Alexander Graham Bell, both in George Street, The Playfair in Omni Centre, The White Lady in St John’s Road, Corstorphine, The Foot of the Walk in Constitution Street, Leith, The Blacksmith’s Forge in Newmills Road, Dalkeith, and The James Young in Hopetoun Street, Bathgate.

The pubs will offer a pint of Greene King Ruddles Best Bitter for £1.29, as well as a pint of Carlsberg for £1.99, a bottle of Beck’s for £1.29 and a cup of coffee for 79p.

According to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the last time the average price of a pint of beer cost £1.29 was in 1992.

Archie Denny, manager of The Standing Order, said: “I’m sure my customers will welcome the reduction in prices.

“Shops hold their sales in January and I believe that given the choice of a trip to a sale at the shops or a sale at The Standing Order, most people would prefer a visit to the pub.”
