Police appeal after man seriously assaulted

Police today appealed for witnesses following the assault, at 3am in Boswall Loan.

The 30-year-old man was walking west on Ferry Road with two women he had begun speaking to on Great Junction Street.

Once at Boswall Loan, heading towards Granton Crescent, the victim was approached and assaulted by two men. He was later taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious facial injuries.

Both suspects were white, around 20 years old, slim and wore white trainers. One was 5ft 7-8 inches tall short dark hair and was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt and red shorts. The other is described as 5ft 9inches tall with short dark spiky hair and wearing a dark-coloured top and dark jeans or joggers.

The two woman are described as white, around 5ft 4inches tall, 18-20 years old, slim builds with local accents. One had elbow-length straight dark hair, and was wearing a light-coloured jumper, dark leggings or jeans, beige boots and carrying a large beige shoulder bag. She was possibly called “Kat”.

Detective Sergeant Clark Martin of Gayfield CID said: “We’re conducting numerous enquiries in the local area in order to trace the suspects, and would urge any witnesses to get in touch.

“We believe the two men were known to the two women, and would also ask anyone who recognises their descriptions to come forward.”

In a separate incident, a man was assaulted and robbed in Dyer’s Close in Edinburgh’s Cowgate at around 1.40am on Saturday.

The 23-year-old victim was on his way home from work when he was approached by two men who assaulted and threatened him before stealing his mobile phone and beanie hat.
