Police believe Saughton Park fire was started 'wilfully' and officers are now following several lines of inquiry

Officers are following a "number of lines of inquiry" after finding a weather shelter containing sports equipment alight at Saughton Sports Complex, just before 7pm on Monday night.
Video footage shared on social media this evening shows a huge plume of thick, black smoke billowing up from the shelter which contained rubber gym mats.

Hide AdThe video appears to show a boy being carried away from the fire by another person at the scene. The person being carried away looked as if they may have been injured.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said two appliances - one each from Sighthill and Tollcross - were sent to the scene and that the fire was extinguished just before 7:40pm.
A police spokesperson said: "Police enquiries are continuing into a fire in Saughton Park, Edinburgh on the evening of Monday 1 June, where a shelter and sporting equipment were set alight. The fire is being treated as wilful.
"The fire has been extinguished and no one was injured. Officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry."
