Police hunt for thief who took handbag

A MAN who stole a pensioner’s handbag in the city is being hunted by police.

The 64-year-old victim and her friend had crossed Buccleuch Street and were walking into the vennel leading to St Patrick Square at about 3.40pm on Monday, when a man approached from behind and grabbed her bag.

He ran back out the vennel and turned right into Buccleuch Street.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 to 25-years-old, 5ft 11in to 6ft tall, and of thin build. He was wearing a grey or blue hooded top with the hood up, blue jeans, plimsoles with a white border and white sole, and a grey or blue bag across his shoulder and body.

A police spokesman said: “We would appeal for anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch.”
