Police hunt pervert who posed as Good Samaritan

POLICE are hunting a pervert who posed as a Good Samaritan to offer a woman shopper a lift home before driving her to an isolated spot where he began making sexual comments.

The victim, who is in her 30s, was shopping in Bonnyrigg town centre at around 11am on Wednesday when she accepted a lift home from the suspect.

He had pulled over after spotting the woman, who did not know him, carrying her bags and offered to drive her back to her nearby home.

But the man drove through the Poltonhall area and eventually stopped at the car park at the top of Roslin Glen, where he made the lewd remarks towards her.

The victim was said to have been left “distressed” following her ordeal as police appealed to anyone who recognised the suspect’s description to come forward.

He is described as white, 40 to 60 years old, 6ft, thin, unshaven and with black spiked hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black trousers and black shoes with a black watch on his right wrist.

The car he was driving is described as a green Ford, possibly a Focus or Fiesta.

A police spokesman said: “While the victim was not injured, she was understandably distressed as a result of her ordeal, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the suspect.

“Anyone who was in the area of Bonnyrigg town centre on Wednesday morning, who noticed a woman in a bright pink jacket getting into a green Ford car, should contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone else who saw the car in the area yesterday, or who recognises the description of the suspect, should also get in touch.”

Meanwhile, police are still hunting a fat sex attacker with a black beard and frizzy hair who pounced on a woman who was surveying trees in North Merchiston Cemetery in Gorgie.

The 23-year-old victim bravely managed to fight off the man who grabbed her as she worked in broad daylight at around 2pm on Monday.
