Polish rapist who carried out brutal attack jailed

Krzysztof Druzgala pounced on the 20 year-old woman after following her off a bus in Edinburgh in August this year.

A judge heard how the victim’s workmates heard a scream – but turned up the radio after thinking nothing of it.

The hysterical woman’s lengthy ordeal only ended when she managed to lash out at Druzgala.

Druzgala is now behind bars after he pled guilty to a rape charge at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 21 year-old will learn his fate when he returns to the dock in December.

The court heard how the victim was attacked as she made her way to work at an industrial estate in Leith, Edinburgh in the early hours of August 30.

She had minutes earlier got off a bus – unknown to her Druzgala was also a passenger and he tailed her.

The pizza chef had spent the previous evening downing pints at a nightclub after finishing a shift.

He had only recently arrived in Scotland having moved from Krakow in Poland.

Prosecutor David Taylor said the woman was just yards from the door of her work when Druzgala grabbed her.

As the terrified victim tried to struggle, the attacker pinned her to the ground before punching her on the face.

He then said: “Stop screaming – shut up or I will kill you.”

Colleagues of the woman were listening to a radio at work, but turned it down after hearing a scream.

However, the group turned the volume back up – as the attack continued outside.

Mr Taylor told the court the victim “felt no escape”.

But the woman finally managed to get away after stamping on Druzgala’s crotch.

She staggered to her work and slammed the door shut as her attacker chased after her screaming abuse.

The court heard the dishevelled and bloodied victim was so distraught she initially could not speak to say what had happened.

However, the woman was eventually able to tell colleagues she had been raped next to their work.

A hunt soon began to catch Druzgala and he was later spotted in Edinburgh’s Constitution Street by officers investigating the attack.

However, he denied being on a bus that morning or meeting a young woman.

Druzgala claimed: “I don’t remember – if I did do something like that, I will take the blame.”

It was not revealed in court how the victim has been affected by the rape.

Judge Lord Burns remanded Druzgala in custody and deferred sentencing until December 3 at the High Court in Edinburgh.
