152 new Covid-19 cases in the Lothians as country records 28 new deaths in the past 24 hours

A total of 152 people in the Lothians have tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours as Scotland records 28 new in the last 24 hours.

Across the country, 1,202 patients have confirmed a positive test result for Covid-19 since the day before, according to government figures.

Of the new cases, 451 were confirmed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 292 in Lanarkshire, 91 in Ayrshire and Arran and 152 in the Lothians.

The remaining were reported from the nine other health boards across the country. The Western Isles was the only health board yesterday not to record a new case.

To date, 1,117 people are being treated for Covid-19 in hospital, an increase of 17 from yesterday, and 85 people are in intensive care, an increase of 3 more from yesterday, having recently tested positive for the virus.

A total of 60, 403 in Scotland are confirmed to have had the virus since the start of the outbreak in March, according to government figures.

The country’s death toll currently stands at 2,754 and 4,482 people had deaths linked to Covid. 106 of these deaths were registered last week, 31 more than the week before.

According to the Scottish Government, 18 coronavirus registered deaths related to deaths in care homes, 82 in hospitals and six were at home or non-institutional settings.

Health boards in the Central Belt are subject to tougher restrictions on hospitality as a result of a spike in cases in recent weeks.

The new 1202 cases represents 6.8% of new tests that were carried out yesterday.
