Edinburgh Marina praises council plans for £1.3bn Granton Waterfront development

Edinburgh Marina Holdings has welcomed the Edinburgh City Council decision to move ahead with a £1.3 billion development to turn the city's largest brownfield site into a coastal town.

Edinburgh Marina Holdings forms part of the plans with a £500 million development of the Edinburgh Marina waterfront.

The development will include 427 full-serviced berths with constant access at all states of tide, 1,800 new homes, a Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference hotel, and the Chestnut medical hub.

The marina, situated 2.5 miles from the centre of the city, will create 12,000 new jobs, and 32.5% of new homes will be affordable housing.

Spokesperson for Edinburgh Marina Holdings Charles Price said: "The council’s framework and our masterplan both demonstrate our shared objective to bring new life and vibrancy to a key area of Edinburgh’s coastline."

"I firmly believe that our proposals for Edinburgh Marina will deliver for the local community, whilst attracting global visitors to the world class marina and Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference hotel.

"Our innovative proposals to introduce a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle (EV) taxi rank at the hotel will complement the Edinburgh City Council’s intention to transition to low carbon transport at Granton Waterfront, further demonstrating our commitment to sustainable tourism.”

The Granton Waterfront development as a whole will also include more new homes, a school, and sustainable transport routes into the city centre in a bid to contribute to the city's goal of becoming a net zero carbon city by 2030.

Council leader Adam McVey said: “We’ve made a commitment to become a net zero carbon city by 2030 and the regeneration of Granton offers the perfect opportunity to showcase how this can be delivered.

"We are committed to working with the local community and partners to create vibrant new neighbourhoods where people live and travel and grow the economy in an eco- friendly way.”
