Nancy Craig, 57, visited her grandmother for several weeks every summer as a child in the 1970s.

She has fond memories of playing on Moredunvale Green with friends and cousins, and remembers going down to the stream which was accessible back then.

Then living in Newtongrange, she said that going to Edinburgh for the summer was ‘a big adventure' for her in those days.

She strongly opposes the possible housing development on Moredunvale Green.

“Without that green where are the kids going to play?” she said.

“All kids are entitled to play outside, even if they live in a high rise.”

Ms Craig, who now lives in Gorebridge, spent her summers in Marytree house, one of the high rise blocks, between the ages of around eight and 14.

“Everybody played out back then, there would be lots of kids outside,” she said.

“Back in the 1970s families would sit out the back of those flats and people would even bring their chairs down, and the kids would play around them,” she said.
