COUNCILLORS in Edinburgh have been reminded of video call etiquette after a mystery member was heard telling a colleague to ‘f*****g waken up’ during a meeting yesterday.

The mystery potty-mouthed member used the profane language during an online meeting of the full council, not realising he had failed to mute his microphone.

His ire was directed at council Housing Convener Kate Campbell, who had not immediately responded to a roll call vote.

While some stunned colleagues responded to the outburst by laughing, Lord Provost Frank Ross, who was convening the meeting, hurriedly interjected to instruct all councillors to check their microphones.

He said: “Can we just ask all councillors to mute their microphones please if you’re not specifically speaking.”

The incident appears to be the first of its kind during virtual council meetings and it remains to be seen whether video call etiquette lessons have since been learned.
