Donald Trump would be welcomed to Edinburgh: Andrew Burns

COUNCIL leader Andrew Burns told the full council meeting that if Donald Trump requested a meeting he would agree to it.

Tory councillor Dominic Heslop raised the issue, noting the billionaire US presidential hopeful would be visiting Scotland later this month.

“Should the council leader receive a request for a meeting, would he be amenable to such a request?”

Cllr Burns said; “As council leader I’m happy to welcome anyone to the capital city, with some exceptions.

If Donald Trump was so minded to request a meeting I would be happy to accede to that request.”

Cllr Heslop welcomed the answer.

He said: “I am delighted to hear that the leader of the city council hasn’t ruled out in anyway a meeting with Donald Trump, a man who could be the most powerful individual in the world in November.

“This is a far more mature approach than some of his Labour colleagues at Westminster. Should Mr Trump come to Edinburgh I for one feel we should be a welcoming city.”
