Tory councillor Dominic Heslop raised the issue, noting the billionaire US presidential hopeful would be visiting Scotland later this month.

Cllr Burns said; “As council leader I’m happy to welcome anyone to the capital city, with some exceptions.
If Donald Trump was so minded to request a meeting I would be happy to accede to that request.”
Cllr Heslop welcomed the answer.

Hide AdHe said: “I am delighted to hear that the leader of the city council hasn’t ruled out in anyway a meeting with Donald Trump, a man who could be the most powerful individual in the world in November.
“This is a far more mature approach than some of his Labour colleagues at Westminster. Should Mr Trump come to Edinburgh I for one feel we should be a welcoming city.”
