A motion agreed at a meeting of the constituency Labour party on Wednesday expressed solidarity with Mr Corbyn.

The former leader was suspended from the Labour party last month for comments about antisemitism, but readmitted to the party this week by a disciplinary panel. However party leader Sir Keir Starmer decided he should not have the Labour whip restored.

The Edinburgh Central motion, addressed to Sir Keir and the party’s national executive committee, says: “For decades jeremy Corbyn has stood with marginalised and oppressed groups in the UK and abroad, often at times when these were ignored, even by many in the Labour party.

"We believe unity, not division, is important for the party to make progress and effectively challenge racism, fascism, antisemitism, harassment and discrimination in whatever form this may take.”
