Edinburgh protest over Donald Trump's proposed UK visit

PROTESTERS will gather in Edinburgh to demonstrate against Donald Trump's proposed visit to the UK.

Anti-facist and anti-racist campaigners will meet at Waterloo Place at 5.30pm today.

The protesters will listen to speeches before a letter will be delivered to the Consulate General of the United States on Regent Terrace.

Theresa may has been under pressure by campaigners to cancel an official visit, believed to be scheduled for next year, after President Trump shared Islamophobic videos by Britain First on Twitter.

The protest is being supported by Unite Against Fascism, Unite Against Fascism, Edinburgh RISE, Scotland Against Criminalising Communities, Stand Up To Racism and Stop The War.

A spokesperson from the Muslim Women’s Association of Edinburgh, said: “We understand the depth of feeling and disgust caused by his actions and feel them too.

“Trump has criticised peaceful protests but his disgraceful silence on neo Nazi violence in America speaks louder than words in making hum a supreme racist intent on sowing discord and dividing communities.

“We stand firmly with all those that object to this irresponsible world leader being granted a state visit or any kind of visit to the UK.”
