JK Rowling: Billboard at Edinburgh Waverley station in support of author removed

It is understood the advert dedicated to the Harry Potter author has been removed for being ‘too political.’

A billboard recently installed at Edinburgh Waverley in support of JK Rowling has been removed for being too “political.”

The advert, reading ‘I Love JK Rowling’ was installed by women’s rights campaigner and free speech warrior Kellie-Jay Keen, often known under her Pseudonym Posie Parker in the train station.

It was unveiled on Monday, July 27 to coincide with the Harry Potter author’s 55th birthday on July 31 and females from across the UK were invited to take selfies alongside the advertisement and wish the Rowling a ‘Happy Birthday’.

Yet the digital advert has been taken down for being too “political” and potentially offensive due to the ongoing heated debate surrounding JK Rowling’s stance on the transgender community.

Network Rail confirmed it does not support billboards pertaining to one point of view or another.

In a statement online the rail company said: “This advert is no longer displayed at Edinburgh Waverley.

"The poster in question is against our code of acceptance for advertising in our stations owing to its political nature.

"We do not allow advertising that is likely to support or promote one viewpoint over another.”

A the time the billboard was installed, Kellie-Jay said: “It's important to bolster women in the public eye who speak up for women and girls.

"JK Rowling has shown incredible compassion and concern for women and girls, who are the ultimate victims of this culture war.

"A war that seeks to eradicate the rights and language of women.Women will not buckle under this threat which is reliant on intimidation and silencing us. Women will be standing firm and reclaiming the public square, one corner at a time. Happy Birthday JK Rowling."
