Nicola Sturgeon will make a TV address to Scots tonight, straight after Boris Johnson makes a similar UK-wide televised statement, setting out the latest Covid-19 lockdown north of the border.

The First Minister will make the statement to cameras at about 8.05pm, just after Prime Minister Boris Johnson makes a similar television statement at 8pm on the measures he is planning to impose on England.

Although both Governments have backed the case for a broadly similar approach, there may be some divergence in the package of measures set out north and south of the border.

The UK Government has already indicated that pubs will close at 10pm and that the proposed return of fans to football stadiums has been ditched.

In Scotland, there is speculation that the ban on visiting other houses, already in place across the west of Scotland, could be extended nationwide.

Ms Sturgeon will unveil the package for Scotland in a statement to MSPs at Holyrood just after 2pm.
