The Royal Edinburgh Hospital is to be redeveloped thanks to a £120 million public-private funding package, First Minister-in-waiting Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The money is part will of a £409m package which Ms Sturgeon said would see state-of-the-art hospitals and health centres emerge across the country.

The Royal Edinburgh Hospital campus will be the main beneficiary, with £120m to complete its redevelopment.

And it is hope the funding announcement will lead to the start of work.

Other projects set to benefit from the scheme include £65m to develop the East Lothian Community Hospital
