Michael Gove, cabinet office minister was asked whether the UK government will take the matter to court if the Scottish Parliament passes legislation for another referendum on independence.
He replied “no” and called for leaders to acknowledge that the priority should not be court cases or legislation but recovery from the pandemic.
“We should work together as Team UK” he said, “We need to be laser focused on making sure the vaccination programme is a success and work on the recovery.”
He commented that the people of Scotland want jobs and recovery and not a government that wants to take people out of the UK.

Independence referendum court case ‘absurd’, says Sturgeon
Speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show this morning, the First Minister said it would be “absurd” if the SNP were taken to court on the matter of an independence referendum for Scotland.
She said this would mean the UK government was refusing to accept ‘the democratic wishes of the Scottish people.’ However, the First Minister added that she does not believe a court case will happen.
Ms Sturgeon said the current priority is focusing on handling the pandemic and now is ‘not the time’ for another referendum.
Yet, Ms Sturgeon commented she ‘wouldn’t rule’ out legislation coming to the Scottish Parliament at the beginning of next year

Ahead of her talks with Boris Johnson later on, Nicola Sturgeon said the UK Government should show the Scottish people ‘some basic respect.’
In an interview with Radio Clyde, the First Minister said: “I think the UK Government should start to show Scotland and the Scottish Parliament some basic respect.
“I’m not talking about me or the SNP here, I’m talking about the people and their parliament, democratically elected.”
“That’s what’s been missing in the past few years.
“So forget about love bombing, how about some basic respect? Starting with some basic respect for our democracy and our democratic processes and how we vote.”

In an interview with the BBC, the newly-elected Labour MSP for the Glasgow region, Pam Duncan-Glancy, said: “If not me then who? of course I will stand up for disabled people’s human rights.”
Ms Duncan-Glancy made history by being elected as the first permanent wheelchair user to the Scottish Parliament .
Speaking after the count, the MSP said: “I promise to do everything in my power to make sure the path for the next disabled MSP and permanent wheelchair user is nowhere near as hard as it’s been for the first.”

Scottish Greens Co leader says ‘it’s up to SNP to initiate’ coalition
In an interview with Radio Clyde last night, Lorna Slater said “the ball is in their court...it’s up to the SNP to initiate” when asked about a coalition with SNP and the Scottish Greens following the election result.
She added: “With more Scottish Greens we have more influence and we can push the government to work faster on climate change- to be more radical when it comes to land reform.
“We will always push for a fairer and greener Scotland in everything that we do.”
Nicola Sturgeon has said the SNP is “open to discussions” but “it may not be a formal coalition.”
