Scottish Government announce increased funding for affordable housing

The Scottish Government have announced an increase in funding for addordable housing across the Capital.

More money is going to affordable housing in Edinburgh according to the Scottish Government.

Details released today saw an increased funding allocation, to £41.3 million in Edinburgh.

Increases have been guaranteed for the next three years, rising to £42.1 million in 2019-20 and £45.1 million in 2020-21.

Scottish Government investment will bring the overall funding allocation for affordable housing across all councils to £1.79 billion by 2020-21.

Housing Minister Kevin Stewart said: “Affordable housing is about more than just bricks and mortar – it provides safe, warm homes, and delivers great benefits for Edinburgh and the country as a whole.

“The most recent statistics show we have delivered almost 72,500 affordable homes since 2007 and we are on track to deliver at least 50,000 over this Parliament, backed by over £3 billion. That is the single biggest investment in, and delivery of, affordable housing since devolution, and I am determined to see that benefit every part of Scotland.

“We will work in partnership with councils and housing associations to deliver quality homes to meet the needs of Edinburgh, backed with financial certainty. It means the council can plan homes now, with a guarantee that funding will increase each year.”

Funding was also increased in East Lothian.
