Scottish Parliament will be recalled for special 'motion of condolence' headed by Scotland's party leaders following death of Prince Philip

The presiding officer has announced that the Scottish Parliament has been recalled on Monday so that members can pay their respects to the Duke of Edinburgh.

The parliament will be recalled at 11am on Monday, April 12 so that MSPs can formally express their condolences when Holyrood meets during a special session.

Party leaders will be given the opportunity to speak to a ‘motion of condolence’ on Prince Philip, according to presiding officer Ken Macintosh.

Mr Macintosh said: “I have decided to recall the Scottish Parliament on Monday at 11am so that Members can pay their respects to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, who extended his friendship and support to the Parliament from the outset.

“Party leaders will be given the opportunity to speak to a motion of condolence.”

Scotland's major parties have suspended their campaigning for the Holyrood Election and flags are being flown at half mast at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh in tribute to the late Prince Philip.
