Ponies saved in field blaze

FIREFIGHTERS had to lead two Shetland ponies to safety after being called to a fire in a field near Broxburn.

A small boat, a caravan and four derelict cars were on fire when crews arrived at the scene near Roman Camps cottages. Three gas cylinders were nearby, one of which exploded.

Nineteen firefighters tackled the blaze shortly before 7pm last night. The two ponies were tethered in the same field as the fire and were led to safety to another field.
