Poor life of JK ancestor
SHE is thought to be worth an estimated £7 billion as the creator of Harry Potter.
But author JK Rowling’s great-great-grandmother has been revealed as a poor workhouse inmate who lost two young children.
Researchers discovered the grim branch of the author’s family tree using a census from 1911.
Ellen Card was found to have lived in a workhouse at Chase Side Crescent in Middlesex, while her husband and daughter boarded with a nearby family.
Mrs Card had three children but only one survived.
