Portobello is holding a free Loony Dook event and here's how you can get involved

Many Edinburgh locals have voiced their anger on social media that the annual Loony Dook event at South Queensferry organised by Underbelly is sold out.

As many pointed out, there is no need to attend an official event in order to get in the sea.

But if you are looking for the camaraderie - and perhaps encouragement to brave the cold - of an organised event, you need look no further than Portobello.

But the smaller event will still feature wacky fancy dress outfits and swimmers fundraising for charity.

Swimmers will gather at the foot of Bath Street to brave the freezing waters at 1pm. Others will also go in at 2.30pm, when the tide will be slightly higher.

Local businesses supporting the event include The Boathouse, The Portobello Bistro, Miro's, The Epsy, The Beach House and The Dalriada.
