The track ‘Then Again’, from their forthcoming album Let’s Hear It For The Dogs, is said to include the lyric “I’m sleeping soundly in my bed cos Jimmy Savile’s still dead”.

Savile was presenting Top of the Pops in the 1980s when Edinburgh twins Craig and Charlie Reid, 53, made their breakthrough.

And the song lyrics are also said to include the lines:

“I can’t believe that I couldn’t see,

“how many dodgy men were running TV.

“While I was growing into a man,

“They took advantage of their fans.”

A source close to the band said the pair felt it was “ a subject matter that should be dealt with.”

“The crux of the song is that those victims and their families are being told that abuse took place in the distant past and that it was then and not now,” he added. “But the full truth has still to come out and though the music is upbeat the lyrics have a particular bite.”
