MIDLOTHIAN: Midlothian District Court could be moving into Edinburgh as part of a review of court services. In an effort to be cost-effective and efficient, the Scottish Court Service is proposing to locate sheriff and district courts, where practicable, within Sheriff Court houses. As a result, the district court, which recently moved to specially-refurbished rooms in Loanhead Town Hall, will move into the Edinburgh Sheriff Court building in Chambers Street. Consultation is now taking place with a move likely at the end of the year. It is expected that the new court, which would still be presided over by a Justice of the Peace, would cover both Midlothian and the capital. The Loanhead court was deemed not a viable option.
