1966

PENICUIK: The Oldham Estate Co Ltd have been granted permission to build shops at Cornbank. Penicuik Dean of Guild Court resumed consideration of the petition by the company for the erection of five shops at the Cornbank Estate, Penicuik, at an estimated cost of £20,000.

1991

DALKEITH: Midlothian House, the district council’s new £6 million headquarters, opens its doors for business next week. It will house 200 district council employees and the Buccleuch Street building in Dalkeith will boast a plush new council chamber for committee meetings. Its opening will mark the fruition of plans to centralise council departments which have been scattered in offices throughout the district. The four storey building comprises council administration on the ground floor, incorporating a reception, rent collection and housing enquiry areas and will be the focus of contact with the public.

2006

LASSWADE: Midlothian Council has dug deep into its pockets to find the money for essential maintenance to the 50-year-old Lasswade High School Centre - while it continues to await Executive funding to demolish and rebuild the deteriorating school. The council has been unsuccessful so far in its bid for funds to replace the existing building, which was erected in 1956.
