1966

LOANHEAD: Their patience exhausted over continual delay in the completion of a new housing development in the High Street, members of Loanhead Town Council have decided to resort to new tactics. They are to withhold further payments to the contractor until the work is completed.

1991

NEWTONGRANGE: A £5 million restoration and development plan which could transform the Lady Victoria Colliery into one of Scotland’s leading tourist attractions has been unveiled by the Scottish Mining Museum. The museum trust is now confident it can raise the money needed.

STRAITON: Midlothian is gambling on becoming the location for Britain’s only super casino. The local authority has put forward a bid to the Casino Advisory Panel for the country’s sole regional casino, which could generate more than 1,000 jobs.
