Remember When: Playtime in Edinburgh's streets

THESE days parents face £1500 in council fees if they want to close their street off and make it '˜safe' for their kids to play in. But back in 1952 Johnston Street in Leith was closed to traffic after 4pm so kids could play, and regardless of '˜designated' play areas, Edinburgh's kids have always managed to make space to have fun.
