Sainsbury’s to help shape town centre

SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury’s is to work with East Lothian Council to help shape the future of Haddington town centre.

The shopping chain, which is opening a new store in the edge of the town, will help to develop a vision for Haddington – aiming to make it one of Scotland’s “finest towns to shop and visit”.

Sainsbury’s is expected to submit a detailed planning application for a store on the outskirts of Haddington soon, after outline planning permission was granted earlier this year.

Of the new partnership, council leader Willie Innes said: “We are very pleased to be working with Sainsbury’s on this ambitious vision for Haddington and look forward to seeing some of our plans come to fruition.”

Paul Miller, Sainsbury’s Scottish development surveyor, said: “Sainsbury’s sees Haddington as an attractive place to invest, and from day one have been committed to working in partnership to ensure that our investment is a spur for further improvements for the town, its centre and
businesses.”
