Savings as heads roll

A CULL of top council official posts in East Lothian will save more than £500,000 a year, it has been claimed.

The number of directors will be cut from four to three, while heads of service will be slashed from 11 to seven under proposals agreed at a full council meeting last month.

The new structure will see the chief executive supported by three executive directors heading up departments for people, communities and support services.

Council leader Paul McLennan said: “The aim of this change is to restructure our management to better meet the needs of the council’s customers and communities. Grouping together services in this way will also help the council improve efficiency and leave us better placed to meet the financial challenges that lie ahead.”
