School teacher disciplined

A TEACHER who revealed a pupil’s exam results as he barracked her in front of other children has been reprimanded by an education regulator.

Stuart McGillivray, a language teacher at Boroughmuir High School, was “aggressive” with a pupil as he made negative comments about her prelim exam grade. He was given a one year reprimand by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), after admitting putting the female pupil “in a state of fear and alarm” in February this year.

The GTCS document, released yesterday, said a full fitness to teach hearing for Mr McGillivray was not necessary because: “No physical harm has been caused to a child or pupil.”

The teacher instead agreed to be given the reprimand. The document read: “[Mr McGillivray] has demonstrated that he has reflected on the matter, shown genuine remorse and taken steps to address the matters at issue.”

The teacher had “good character and history”, the document said.
