A SCHOOLBOY was threatened by two thugs brandishing a glass Irn-Bru bottle as they mugged him for his mobile phone after following him on a bus.

The 15-year-old was also robbed of his bag during the lunchtime attack on Friday just yards from a busy Scotmid store.

Police Scotland said the teen had got on a Number 3 bus at Clerk Street around 12.30pm when he noticed male youths sitting behind him.

He got off at Calder Road and was taking the underpass to Broomhouse Grove when he was ambushed and threatened. His bag was found later thanks to another group of boys who saw what happened and retrieved it.

There was no description of his attackers, because they had been wearing either scarves or balaclavas and had their hoods up.

Detective Constable Peter Lyons said: ”This was a frightening attack on a young man, which has left him badly upset.

“We will not tolerate this type of attack in our communities and with this in mind we are eager to trace the two male suspects as soon as possible. We also wish to speak to the group of youths who assisted in the return of the victim’s bag.
