Schools to have charitable status reviewed

A NUMBER of fee-charging schools across Edinburgh and the Lothians are to have their charitable status reviewed over the next two years by Scotland’s charity regulator.

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) will consider whether each school meets the charity test set out in the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005. The regulator has already reviewed 13 schools and granted charitable status to over 5000 new charities using the same test since taking up its powers in 2006.

Among the Edinburgh and Lothians schools to be reviewed are Belhaven Hill, Clifton Hall, Edinburgh Steiner, Mannafields Christian, Fettes College, Edinburgh Academy, The Compass School, St George’s School for Girls and Loretto.
