Scotland's first baby sloth celebrates World Sloth Day at Edinburgh Zoo
Atty, Scotland's first-ever baby sloth, celebrated World Sloth Day alongside his mum Feira and dad Nico.
Scotland’s first baby sloth has celebrated World Sloth Day with a tasty floral treat at Edinburgh Zoo.
Atty, who was born at the zoo in May 2026, marked the occasion alongside his mum Fe as keepers treated the pair to some of their favourite snacks.
The duo were given a special treat by staff at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), while Atty’s dad, Nico, took the opportunity to enjoy a nap.

Atty made international headlines following his birth as the first sloth ever born in Scotland. He was named after renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough, who famously chose the sloth when asked which animal he would like to be for a day back in 2017.
The young sloth lives with both his mum and dad, Fe and Nico, in the zoo’s specially designed sloth house which provides the warm and humid environment they need.
World Sloth Day takes place on October 20 each year to raise awareness of the animals and the threats they face in the wild.

The annual event aims to highlight the urgent need to protect sloths and their natural habitat.
Atty’s celebrations offer a chance to shine a spotlight on sloths, with the Scottish-born youngster continuing to capture attention since his arrival earlier this year.
