Scottish surfers declare independence from UK team
Scottish surfers have broken away from Team GB in the lead-up to the sport’s world championships.
The six competitors – from Edinburgh, St Andrews, Fraserburgh, Elgin and Thurso – decided to go it alone just weeks after Scotland voted to remain in the UK in the independence referendum. Their appearance at the International Surf Association World Surfing Games in Peru this weekend will mark the first time a separate Scots team has competed on the world stage in 20 years.
