Scrap metal thieves target former school

POLICE are appealing for information after metal was stolen from a disused school in Midlothian.

The suspects forced their way into the former Dalkeith High School on Newmills Road between midnight and 2.20am yesterday and stole a large quantity of assorted metal, including copper.

During the theft the raiders moved two large boiler parts outside the school building, but left them behind.

A police spokesman said: “The building is in a residential area and hopefully someone may have heard or seen someone or something suspicious around the building in the early hours of Thursday morning.

“Scrap metal thefts are becoming common throughout the county and police are implementing a range of measures to try and stop thieves.”
