'Selfish and thoughtless' fly-tippers force closure of West Lothian road

The waste included old carpets and kitchen units

West Lothian council is investigating a substantial amount of commercial waste which was dumped illegally overnight at farm in Bathgate.

Two incidents of dumping were discovered on Friday morning, one on the U22 road near Midseat Farm, off the B792 between Blackburn and Stoneyburn, and another at Heights Road in Blackridge.

The waste included a mixture of kitchen units, old carpet and garden waste.

Council officers said the dumping at Midseat Farm was extensive that the road had to be closed. Both sites have now been cleared.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Local taxpayers are once again left to cover the cost of removing rubbish dumped by irresponsible offenders.

“This type of behaviour is selfish, thoughtless and illegal. Our Enforcement Officers will investigate these incidents and will do everything possible to identify those responsible.

“Anyone caught fly-tipping could face fines of up to £40,000 or prosecution.”
