Shoppers evacuated after massive fire at Edinburgh retail park

Smoke and flames spotted behind sports wear store

Smoke was seen billowing from the container

FIREFIGHTERS are battling a blaze this afternoon at an Edinburgh retail park.

Witnesses reported smoke and flames coming from a container behind the Decathlon store at Hermiston Gait.

One fire appliance was deployed shortly before 5pm with another called as back-up.

Staff and customers have been evacuated

"It looked like staff have evacuated customers from the store," said a witness.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a large fire in an industrial waste container."
